What do I need to build a website?
You’ll need the following three things to start your WordPress site.
- A domain name – this is the name of your website such as google.com
- Web Hosting – this is where your website files are stored.
- Your undivided attention.
Let’s start by making our first WordPress website.
STEP # 1: Choose the domain name
This is very important when deciding how to make a site.
If you make a website for your business, select the domain that has the name of your company or your niche. For example, companyname.com or pillowshop.com.
If you are planning your own site then think that your domain name is your name and surname, say johnsmith.com or you can say, in recent times, a very popular national domain of Montenegro with the extension .me like johnsmith.me.
The global domain, as you probably already have the opportunity to spot, usually end with the .com, .org, or .net extensions. However, during the last couple of years, or more precisely since the year 2012, when the ICAN agency released it, a new pile of new extensions emerged, so today it has an extension and extensions such as .agency or .pizza.
Our advice is to try to register a domain with a known global extension unless new extensions match the description of your business. Old well-known extensions in a name like .com are easier to remember and if someone tries to find your company name on the internet, they will first try to search you with .com or on a national domain. The new extensions have over 1600 and are now mostly used by young technology companies and startups who are ready to experiment with domain names.
STEP # 2: Buy domain and hosting
We recommend the BlueHost , GoDaddy, Namecheap or A2hosting service. In this tutorial, we will use A2hosting.
You Need Money to Make Money
You wonder how much it costs. Depends on what you want. Fast and reliable hosting is more expensive but your visitor likes fast website and Google loves speed. In this tutorial, all cost a total of $ 200, but we chose the best deal. You can pay much less, it all depends on you. A domain name typically costs $14.99/year and hosting costs start from $7.99/month.
To save money and minimize potential losses and avoiding overspending., we recommend to start small expenses and then add more features to your website as your business grows.
If you are a beginner I recommend that you try our hosting for 3 months for free. Just contact us.
Let’s start
First go ahead and purchase domain name and hosting. Go to A2Hosting and click on the SHARED HOSTING.
This will bring you to a page where you will need to choose a pricing plan for your website. LITE is the cheapest, SWIFT plans is the most popular but TURBO is the best.
Choose the plan that you like and continue to the next step, to select a new domain name.
Click Check to see is domain available.
if the domain is available click CONTINUE. On next screen, you will see optional extras that you can purchase. We don’t recommend purchasing these extras. You can always add them later on if you decide that you need them.
You can change Server Location depending on where you live, or where you will be offering web services, your target users. Then click CONTINUE.
On this page, you can see your order. You can click edit to change something, change some services. As you can see there is 51% One Time Discount. Just to notice you this is TURBO package, most expensive. You can choose a package that you want. Now if everything is OK click Checkout.
On the Checkout page, you’ll be asked to provide your account information such as name, address, email, etc… and payment method. I always prefer PayPal. We will explain how to open PayPal account later.
Check that you have read and agree to the Terms of Service and click on Complete Order. You will get a confirmation e-mail with details of your order.
And that’s it.
STEP # 3: Install WordPress
Our next step is installing WordPress. We have to log in to the c-panel first.
You will see you a bunch of icons but we’re interested in just one for now. One with WordPress logo.
Click on the WordPress icon which will send us to a Softaculous page.
Right here we see a bunch of things on the right. We can install various CMS variations, forums etc … but that we do not currently care about. Just click blue button Install Now.
Now we have some settings to do. First Choose Protocol. Select https:// with www or without, that’s your choice. If you have more domains on host Choose Domain where you want to install WordPress. If you want WordPress in some directory like www.domainname.com/somedirectory you can type some name in In Directory. On Site Settings you can put site name and some short description of your website, you can also do that later from WordPress Dashboard. Choose Admin Username, Admin Password and Admin Email. Select Language of WordPress installation and click Install.
Now you have WordPress installed on your domain. You can click on your domain name to see how it looks. It should look like this. That’s Twenty Seventeen free default WordPress theme installed.
Or you can go to WordPress admin page clicking on Administrative URL: https://www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin. If you are not logged in automatically you will see this:
Now log in with username and password that you selected during WordPress installation and you will go to WordPress dashboard.
Magic is happening here. You can immediately change the theme, some free for the beginning. Go to Appearance->Themes and click. You will see themes that are already installed.
On top, click blue button Add New.
Now you can change your theme. Just select one and click Preview and if you like it click Install and after installation Activate.
